Joaquim Gomis became the “photographer of Ibiza” by capturing the magic of the island with his camera. From dazzling landscapes to portraits of everyday life, his work is like a visual journey that shows the light, colors and local traditions. It is as if each photo tells a story of Ibiza’s transformation.
“Joaquim Gomis felt a crazy and uncontrollable passion for the island of Eivissa” by Julio Herranz.
As photography enthusiasts in Ibiza ,we are pleased to talk about a true master of the lens:
Joaquim Gomis (Barcelona , 1902), a catalan who left his mark on the world of modern photography.
This genius was not only part of the famous Group of 4, composed by Joan Colom, Ramón Masats and Alberto García-Alix, which was dedicated to giving a boost to contemporary photography in Spain, but also left a literary legacy that makes us reflect on photographic theory. A true combo of artist and thinker!
His works have traveled to prestigious galleries in cities such as Paris, Milan, New York and, of course, his beloved Barcelona.
His work has been exhibited in museums such as the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) and the Museu d’Historia de Barcelona, as well as in temporary exhibitions in various cultural spaces. Some of his photographs are also part of private collections and photographic archives.
Joaquim Gomis discovered his passion for photography in the Roaring Twenties, and since then, he never stopped innovating!
Gomis had a unique vision: he believed that photography was an art in itself, capable of capturing the beauty of the everyday and exploring the relationship between the subject and its environment. His experimental approach and his use of innovative techniques made him a reference in artistic photography. A pioneer who continues to inspire new generations.
